Faculty of Management of CU Celebrates 35 Years
On 5 February 1991, the Academic Senate of Comenius University approved the proposal to establish a new faculty, and the Faculty of Management of Comenius University in Bratislava was officially founded.
In 2026, the Faculty of Management of Comenius University in Bratislava commemorates the 35th anniversary of its establishment. This important milestone is linked to the period of profound social changes in 1990 and 1991, which created a unique space for the emergence of a modern academic institution open to the world. Comenius University was able to seize this historic opportunity at the right time.
The Birth of the Faculty in the Spirit of International Cooperation
The idea of establishing a new faculty arose from intensive development of international partnerships and inspiration drawn from Western European and American universities. A key role in promoting this initiative was played by Ferdinand Devínsky, with the support of the then rectors Miroslav Kusý and Juraj Švec. Together, they enabled the realization of an ambitious and visionary project—the establishment of the Faculty of Management of Comenius University, modeled on modern American business schools.
Opening up to the West also brought unique opportunities for international cooperation with prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Continuity of Leadership, Faculty Values, and Vision for the Future
On the occasion of this anniversary, the faculty also recalls the continuity of its leadership and the personal contributions of its former deans, who shaped its profile, values, and standing both nationally and internationally. These individuals include Ján Rudy, Jozef Komorník, Jozef Papula, and Michal Greguš.
The current faculty leadership, together with the Presidium of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Management, expresses sincere gratitude to all individuals who contributed to its establishment, development, and success. Appreciation is also extended to members of the academic community, partners, and supporters of the faculty.
The 35th anniversary is also a commitment to continue developing the Faculty of Management of Comenius University as a centre of academic excellence and one of the leading business schools in Central Europe.
