Seminar of Department of Theoretical Physics - Noel Vincze (27.10.2026)

Tuesday 27.10.2026 at 14:00, Lecture room F2/125

Noel Vincze (Institute of Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences):
Dark matter and its emergence from topological neutrinos

Abstract:
In this seminar, we develop a novel way to reinterpret the neutrino. Our main focus is on the topological quantity associated with the electroweak anomaly. Integrating out the gauge and fermion fields, except for the neutrinos, we are left with an effective vertex similar to the 't Hooft vertex for quarks. Then, using the gap equation, we generate the neutrino condensate, which, in turn, determines the Majorana mass of neutrinos. The model's predictions are staggering: it provides a clear physical explanation for neutrino mass, mixing, and CP violation and, on the cosmological scale, yields deviations from the established result. Moreover, the model provides a clear identity for neutrinos: they are Majorana particles, and this nature is enforced by the topology of the electroweak vacuum.
To establish a connection between dark matter and topological neutrinos, we have to go beyond the condensation and form new composite topological fermions. The proposed particle, the elaphron, is a soliton solution of the neutrino condensate. Its mathematical formulation is based on the Faddeev equation, a well-established method of baryonization. The techniques and steps used to study topological neutrinos are very similar to those used to create mesons and baryons from the quark sea. This new dark matter particle, the elaphron, is a stable, bound state of the neutrino condensate; furthermore, it is topologically protected. With it, we can derive the dark-to-baryonic matter ratio, which has long confounded astrophysics, as well as explore other cosmological applications.

Monica A. Reyes:
On the Spectrum of Token Graphs and Other Families of Graphs

Abstract:
In this talk, we investigate the spectral properties of token graphs F_k(G) and their relationship with the base graph. The k-token graph of a graph G is the graph whose vertices are the k-subsets of vertices from G, where two vertices are adjacent whenever their symmetric difference is an edge in G.
Using structural and combinatorial techniques, we analyze how adjacency and Laplacian spectra behave under this construction. Furthermore, we extend these methods to study related configurations, including supertoken graphs and related structures.
This is a joint work with Cristina Dalfo, Miquel Angel Fiol and Arnau Messegue.

In late September 2026, the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, Comenius University Bratislava...

From the laboratory to the patient
The three-day scientific programme, held from 23 to 25 September 2026, brought together scientists, clinicians, research infrastructures, innovative companies and the next generation of researchers. Discussions focused on key areas of modern medicine: biobanking, translational oncology, regenerative medicine, biomarker development, and applications of artificial intelligence and digital health.
Key international speakers included representatives of the European research infrastructures BBMRI-ERIC and EATRIS-ERIC, as well as representatives of European and national research infrastructures from Czechia, Austria, Slovenia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Hungary and Lithuania.
Also attending were members of the JFMED CU leadership, including Dean Andrea Čalkovská; Dalibor Murgaš, representing Martin University Hospital; Peter Valkovič, Chair of the Scientific Council of the Slovak Ministry of Health; Ján Kočišek, representing the Slovak Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth; Petra Zappe, representing the Research and Innovation Authority (VAIA); and the national directors of the two research infrastructures, Zuzana Danková of BBMRI.sk and Erika Halašová of EATRIS-SK.
Participants agreed that translational medicine provides an essential link between basic research and clinical practice, allowing scientific findings and high-quality biological data to be applied more quickly to diagnosis, prevention and patient treatment.
Slovak research infrastructures sign menorandum
A highlight of the conference’s opening ceremony was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between four national nodes: BBMRI.sk, EATRIS-SK, ELIXIR Slovakia and SLOVACRIN.
The memorandum lays the groundwork for closer cooperation and the sharing of resources, expertise, data and technologies, strengthening the position of Slovak biomedical research within the European Research Area. It is a significant recognition of JFMED CU’s role, as the faculty hosts the national nodes of both BBMRI.sk and EATRIS-SK.
“The idea for this memorandum grew out of the need to bring the main pillars of biomedical research closer together and make the most of what each has to offer. We want to share our resources and experience, and create opportunities for innovative projects that will help improve people’s health,” said Zuzana Danková, National Director of BBMRI.sk, who initiated the memorandum.
The memorandum was signed by Zuzana Danková, National Director of BBMRI.sk; Erika Halašová, National Director of EATRIS-SK; Tomáš Szemes, Chair of the ELIXIR Slovakia Board; and Miroslava Rabajdová, representing SLOVACRIN. Zuzana Danková and Erika Halašová also provided scientific oversight for the conference.

Dr. Hab. Piotr Homola (Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow, Poland):
What is behind the cosmo-seismic effect?
Abstract:
There is a statistically solid (on a six sigma level) correlation between the global seismic activity and changes in the intensity of cosmic radiation recorded at the surface of our planet, dubbed the cosmo-seismic effect (
). The relationship that has recently been found in public data by the Cosmic Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory (CREDO) Collaboration is physically intriguing: the available astrophysical and geophysical paradigms do not point to a plausible conventional scenario that would explain the phenomenon without an external steering factor capable of affecting both cosmic radiation and seismicity. In the talk, I’ll describe the key characteristics of the cosmo-seismic correlation and highlight the main threads of the analysis oriented on possible physical interpretations. Since the phenomenon remains unexplained despite intense efforts, I’ll take the opportunity to consult the audience, counting particularly on your critical thinking skills (maybe there is a trivial explanation we fail to see), and open-mindedness (if the paradigms fail, maybe we should think beyond). Who knows where this unexpected scientific adventure may lead?

Institute of European Law at the Digital Antitrust Conference in Białystok

Ondrej Blažo, Dominika Krištofičová, Tomáš Žifčák, 9 October 2026, Białystok, 15th International...

On 9 October 2026, the Faculty of Law of the University of Białystok hosted the 15th International PhD Students’ Conference on Competition Law, devoted to Digital Antitrust. Professor Ondrej Blažo and PhD students Dominika Krištofičová and Tomáš Žifčák represented the Institute of European Law at the Faculty of Law, Comenius University Bratislava.
Dominika Krištofičová presented “Damages Claims in the PC Games Sector under Article 102 TFEU”. Her contribution examined claims for compensation for harm caused by abuses of dominance in the PC games sector, including the identification of injured parties and the quantification of damages. She paid particular attention to assessing and compensating harm in games provided free of charge, where price alone does not capture the value of the relationship between the player and the provider.
In “Ubi Mercatus, Ibi Forum? Private International Law Encounters the DMA”, Tomáš Žifčák analysed international jurisdiction and applicable law in the private enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). He highlighted the mismatch between the DMA’s territorial reach and existing jurisdiction rules. He also proposed extending the jurisdiction rules of the Brussels I bis Regulation to defendants domiciled outside the European Union to ensure effective access to judicial protection.
Both doctoral presentations addressed original research questions and put forward innovative proposals. They demonstrated the authors’ ability to develop independent legal arguments and critically assess established approaches. The Institute of European Law takes pride in the quality and originality of their contributions.
Professor Ondrej Blažo presented “Fines Sine Fine? Mapping the DMA’s Territorial Matrix”. His contribution examined the DMA’s territorial scope, particularly the relationship between the conditions triggering its application, the scope of protection afforded to affected persons and the private enforcement of its obligations. The analysis also explored the possibility of providing protection to persons outside the European Union.
Other presentations addressed the application of Article 102 TFEU to digitally coordinated systems, recent case law on the designation of core platform services under the DMA, the use of emotion data and competition law questions arising from the Google Android judgment. The programme also prompted discussion of digital regulation in China and the relationship between consumer welfare and individual welfare in competition law.
A particularly valuable feature of the conference was the combination of senior and junior sessions. Joint discussions enabled doctoral researchers to test their findings with experienced academics and receive scholarly feedback. They also gave senior participants an opportunity to engage with the research questions and approaches of an emerging generation of scholars.
Professor Anna Piszcz and Dr Paulina Korycińska-Rządca organised the conference together with the other members of the organising team from the University of Białystok.
