Four new professors
Bratislava, 18 November 2020: Today, the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová appointed 27 new professors, four of whom are from Comenius University.
The following experts from CU were granted the title of professor today:
- Prof. RNDr. Darina Saxunová, PhD., Management, Faculty of Management, Comenius University
- Prof. Mgr. Martin Muránsky, PhD., Systematic philosophy, Faculty of Education, Comenius University
- Prof. Mgr. Anton Heretik, PhD., Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University
- Prof. RNDr. Branislav Bleha, PhD., Human geography, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University
In her address the President of the Slovak Republic emphasized that education imparted an obligation and the title of professor even more so. "In this context and given the times in which we are living I am concerned that, before the pandemic, we need to deal with the infodemic as soon as possible. Even people with academic qualification, for example teachers, fall for the pathological spread of conspiracy theories. It is more important than ever that you induce your students to think critically and to think independently. This is crucial for the future of our country. Where else should young people learn and practice critical thinking, if not at our universities and colleges?" the president said.
She also drew attention to brain drain from Slovakia. She called for all universities and colleges to become places where teachers and students engage in dialogue and cultivate an atmosphere of academic appreciation and respect. This environment could ensure that the graduates leaving our schools possess an excellence which would enable them to become outstanding in their practical careers.
