Informal NSP Scholarship Meeting at Comenius University

Informal NSP Scholarship Meeting at Comenius University

On December 11, 2024, an informal meeting of NSP scholarship holders – students, researchers, and teachers – was held at the Information Center of Comenius University. The meeting was hosted by the Director of the Department of International Relations at Comenius University, Mr. Martin Považan. The aim of the meeting was to discuss life at the university and ways to promote international integration. It provided a platform for sharing experiences, discussing the challenges and benefits of international collaboration, and exploring opportunities for engagement in university activities.
Representatives from various faculties participated:
•    Faculty of Arts: Researcher Alena from Belarus (specializing in museology), bachelor's student Ibrohim (journalism) from Uzbekistan, and student Farangiz (American and British studies) from Uzbekistan.
•    Faculty of Physical Education and Sport: Researcher Andreew from Indonesia (sport physiology).
•    Faculty of Science: Researcher Rafique (geology) and Professor of Chemistry Masuad from Iran.
•    FSES: Researcher Salam from Jordan.
All participants perceive Slovakia as a friendly country with people who are always willing to help. They highly appreciated the work of the international offices staff but also pointed out areas where the process of integrating foreigners could be improved. Some of the common topics raised included: visa and immigration processes, opening a bank account, registering with a doctor in case of long-term medical care needs, available courses in Slovak language basics, more frequent interactions with representatives of international offices, academics, and supervisors, better communication regarding university-wide events and conferences, and overall better integration into the faculty and university community.
All of these suggestions should be taken into account with the planned opening of a Welcome Center at the rectorate level, which will provide centralized support for international students and staff.
The entire meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere, as seen in the event photos. The discussion brought forward many valuable suggestions for improvements, and we plan to continue similar activities in the future, not only at the level of individual faculties but also in a more centralized manner.
